Metastamir-mediated immune evasion

چکیده
Metastases are responsible for more than 90% of cancer-related deaths. We have recently reported that miR-10b inhibits the expression of MICB, a stress-induced ligand of the activating natural killer (NK)-cell receptor NKG2D. Here, we discuss our findings, which link metastasis formation to immune evasion.

Herpes simplex virus type 1 evades the effects of antibody and complement in vivo.
Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) encodes a complement-interacting glycoprotein, gC, and an immunoglobulin G (IgG) Fc binding glycoprotein, gE, that mediate immune evasion by affecting multiple aspects of innate and acquired immunity, including interfering with complement components C1q, C3, C5, and properdin and blocking antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity. Previous studies evaluated th...

DNA damage responses have been proposed as a gatekeeper to block tumorigenesis. We identify unexpected mechanisms whereby ATM-mediated pathway interacts with NFκB inflammatory cascades, leading to upregulation of integrin-αbβ3 on chemoresistant tumor cells. The integrin-αbβ3 is responsible for impeding tumor-specific immune responses, linking chemoresistant niche with tumor immune evasion.
متن کاملA novel role for plasmin-mediated degradation of opsonizing antibody in the evasion of host immunity by virulent, but not attenuated, Francisella tularensis.
Opsonization by Abs represents a critical component of the host immune response against many pathogens. The mechanisms by which virulent microbes evade this protective response are not completely understood. In disease mediated by Francisella tularensis, Ab can effectively protect against infections with attenuated strains, for example, LVS, but not virulent strains such as SchuS4. Thus, it is ...
متن کاملEvasion of immune responses by Trypanosoma cruzi, the etiological agent of Chagas disease.
Infection with the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma cruzi leads to Chagas disease, which affects millions of people in Latin America. Infection with T. cruzi cannot be eliminated by the immune system. A better understanding of immune evasion mechanisms is required in order to develop more effective vaccines. During the acute phase, parasites replicate extensively and release immunomodulatory mole...
متن کاملPredictive Virtual Infection Modeling of Fungal Immune Evasion in Human Whole Blood
Bloodstream infections by the human-pathogenic fungi Candida albicans and Candida glabrata increasingly occur in hospitalized patients and are associated with high mortality rates. The early immune response against these fungi in human blood comprises a concerted action of humoral and cellular components of the innate immune system. Upon entering the blood, the majority of fungal cells will be ...
